From Our Founding Members…
The math is simply against cybersecurity – cyber criminals only have to succeed once, whereas cybersecurity needs to succeed every time. I call it threat-of-once. We need to address this imbalance.
Successful cyber attacks are on the rise; time for a step change! Read our blueprint for better cybersecurity and join forces with the Coalition!
CyberSecurity should not create fear but protect hope.
Progress of civilisation requires human-machine cybersymbiosis to have better cybersecurity so as to reduce uncertainty that an individual human fears when entering the cyberspace realm.
Cybersecurity is the glue of the fourth Industrial Revolution. As connectivity exponentially permeates into our lives, cybersecurity is fundamental to our security, privacy, and vitality.
Cybersecurity is no longer an IT problem, and correspondingly, IT hardware and software alone will no longer address cyber threats effectively. We need to rethink cybersecurity and return to how engineers are trained to solve problems in the physical world.
Just because you are compliant does not mean you are secure. For a path breaking new approach, please refer to Coalition’s blueprint for better cybersecurity!
While cyber incidents are inevitable, an attacker’s goals of stopping critical services and leaking sensitive data can be disrupted. In this regard, a loss-reduction framework and methodology is both apt and timely.
As we head into the 20s, is it time for some fresh thinking and new approaches on cybersecurity? I think so. Please take a look at BetterCyberSecurity.Org and let me know your thoughts.
Cybersecurity needs a paradigm shift. We have to start building digital technologies that are attack-ready, not just secure-by-design. Loss-reduction is not a new concept, but applied to cybersecurity, it could be the paradigm shift we need.
Great power rivalries have competing interests in cyberspace, the global transformer of the world. Governments need to come together and seriously think of the economic, political and human challenges that are inevitably coming our way.
With advancing threats, more connectivity, regulation, and workforce mobilisation than ever, and a future that’s still reliant on technologies of the past, it’s not enough to demand security-by-design and resiliency. We have to go further. We have to bake in design-for-cyber-attacks and a loss-reduction foundation.
We are never going to deliver meaningful results if we keep doing cybersecurity the way we have always done it. Embrace our blueprint for a better way and become part of our Coalition for change!
CyberSecurity risks continue to increase in the absence of a cohesive plan. The Better CyberSecurity Coalition's strategic blueprint is a foundation for businesses, governments, and academia to work together for a secure future.
Today cybersecurity is not just essential but critical. Cybersecurity is not just a problem for a company whose balance sheet can be reduced significantly but can damage the economy of a nation. I invite you to review Coalition's path breaking blueprint.
Cybersecurity is a team sport and as such, it is imperative that we begin to drive the idea that it is a common responsibility. As cybersecurity leaders, we need to ensure that we drive a universal understanding of the threat vectors.
Cybersecurity can't be bought. It isn't a product or service. It is an evolution that organizations must undertake in the way that they operate every day through the operationalization of their people, process, and technology investments to protect themselves and those that do business with them.
It’s not just SECURITY, it’s about the DEFENCE to protect the nations’ and organizations’ competitiveness and success in modern digital world. Do have a look at our holistic framework, included in the Coalition’s Blueprint.
Achieving cybersecurity is a journey and not a destination. The Coalition’s blueprint provides the rationale for course corrections in face of new threats brought by emerging technologies such as cloud computing, robotics, AI and blockchain where “security by design” is the foundational practice to follow.
Avoiding cybersecurity is not an option for anyone. You cannot react to attacks that are already here or rely on check-the-box frameworks. Course correct with a forward thinking approach to cybersecurity, join the Coalition.
What is your organisation's annual budget to secure physical and digital assets (in per million $ of asset value)? Does the balance between the two reflect their strategic importance to the organisation?
"Left of Boom" people, processes, capabilities, and tools are tomorrow's cybersecurity solutions, but we need them today.
Like so much of the world today, many of our systems have been designed without considering the lifecycle implications - with security retrofitted or only considered later. We need fundamental shift towards designing with security and breach in mind, and creating and using only the data we need and can control.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. In CyberSecurity, it is no different. This is why we do need to address our current challenges from a different perspective.
Good guys have to protect against all threats and vulnerabilities. Bad guys only have to succeed once. That is bad odds, and so we need dramatic changes to be effective, hence my support for the “Better Cybersecurity Coalition.”
The foundation of a successful cyber security strategy must start at the top, not the bottom. In order to achieve this, we must take a different approach than what we have been doing thus far. Please look at BetterCyberSecurity.org and let us know your thoughts.
Many Cybersecurity programs are taking on too much at once which leads to mediocre results. Security is about risk management. Focus must be given to the efforts that will bring the best risk reduction.
Cyber security needs to get back to the basics. It is tempting to chase new shinny security solutions but your security program will not be on a solid foundation until the basics are done well.
For CISOs, enterprise tools such as predictive analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence will be more readily adapted to expand the effectiveness of mitigation and analysis of threats. The role of the CISO will grow in importance as cybersecurity is not just an IT issue, but a survival and ROI imperative for companies.
While cyber threats continue to pose challenges, the emerging technologies such as cognitive computing, data lake and deep learning will be key to combat them. Key to manage the cyber risk will be adherence to security by design principle.
